I recently got rid of mcafee malwarebytes and spybot S&D(Spybot was hijacking me) and installed microsoft security essentials(Free, easy to use, and does not take your computer hostage! :) ) And that did not completely help but it found a virus downloader that keeps downloading itself! I checked hardware for loose cables! Nodda. Have run tons of av scans and sadly finds one thing(Settings Hijacker threatlevel:medium) but says access is denied to remove! I tried running repair with cd but do not know admin pass! I hace also run a clean up program, sfc scannow, and I have tried to remove any spyware from registry! I am currently running Defrag and am going to run chkdsk /r, but hopes arent high! I do not completely want to upgrade ram but will if need be.I also copied good winlogon file from another computer onto mine but it says "Winlogon is in use" I have more than one winlogon file! I AM GOING CRAZY ABOUT THIS WINLOGON ERROR!!! Recently had XP Spyware 2011 virus attack my comp. so thinking it damaged my winlogon file! Someone, please help me!

Hi,

The two are not related. I have not found an easy fix. Since your a partition on your mac I'd try the install windows over the top to refreshen files. This fixed my issue. Are you running bootcamp or VM Ware? You may want to get VM ware since you make a snap shot of a clean windows install/setup and save it for times like this. This has saved me more than once. I use VM Ware fusion on my Mac Book Pro.

My post was suppose to have the info below first, for some reason when I cut and pasted it was left out.

I started getting the "Winlogon" can not read memory error on Monday. I had made two changes to my system in the last week, 1, I changed my router to a wireless/wired one and purchased and installed a new wired/wireless printer. I wasn't happy with the wireless printer and my PC kept trying to logon to the wireless lan so I switched everything over to wired. I started getting the winlogon error after all that, not sure if it had anything to do with that.

Anyway, I have a Mac Pro running Snow Lepoard, XP Pro 32, and Windos 7 all installed on their own drives. When booting my PC into XP, get a Winlogon error and ask to send error rport to MS. sometimes I click on send and others I don't. Was able to continue to work but if I try to use Standby or Shutdown, get the Winlogon memory read error with the "click on OK or cancel" Tried the Services "ignore" as mentioned in previous posts, didn't help much. I also rebooted into Windows 7 and did a chkdsk /r on the XP Pro drive, no errors found. I tried several times to restore my system to an earlier day but no luck. I finally found after a search that some antivirus software blocks windos system restore. Disabled my Norton 2011, did a system restore to a couple weeks ago and my Winlogon issues are history.

Sorry for the long winded stuff but I figure more is better than not enough info.

Hi,

If you can log in to the machine I found that running Advanced System Care free version seems to have resolved this for me.

Might be a bit less risky that HiJack this, though I tried HijackThis first and it didn't report anything that looked like it was related to this problem.

Hi,

You have to be able to boot your computer into a user login though to use HIJACKTHIS. When I was having the "WinLogon Application ERROR" The computer would reboot itself over and over.

How did you login when you are getting a "WinLogon Application ERROR:?

"WinLogon Application ERROR" I fixed it by running HIJACKTHIS and in the list I checked and clicked Fix button the items starting with WINLOGON :--- and it fixed the problem magically.

TRY IT It's worth your time.
